苹果在推出新的系统版本后，就会关闭掉旧版本的系统验证，而被关闭掉的系统验证版本意味着再也无法刷机回到原来的版本了，只能用最新版本。对比，苹果官方的解释是：“为了防止设备被降级至缺乏最新安全更新的软件版本，iOS使用了一种名为系统软件授权的流程。如果允许降级，能够以物理形式接触到设备的攻击者将可以安装早期版本的iOS，并利用已在新版iOS中被修正的安全弱点”。
