Huawei Launches Harmony 2.0 Beta to Attract Developers
December 17, 2020 10:50 pmBeijing (PingWest)- China’s top smartphone vendor Huawei launched a beta version of Harmony OS 2.0, inviting developer to try it by signing up via Huawei developers website.
The Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro, P40 and P40 Pro, and the MatePad Pro are the only supported devices at the current stage, the firm noted on its developer website.
The company aims to support more EMU11 devices next year.
Huawei launched the first version of Harmony OS in August last year, which came three months after the U.S announced sanctions that restricted the company from doing business with U.S supplier including Google apps.
So far more than 100,000 developers have joined the Harmony OS developing system, including China’s second-largest e-commerce platform JD.com, Youku and voice recognition software provider iFlyTek, Huawei noted in a press release
Harmony OS plays a really important role at the center of Huawei’s strategy for long-term growth in the future, as it could minimize the negative effect caused by US sanctions that prohibited Huawei from doing business with American companies.
At Huawei’s developer conference in Shenzhen in September, Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei’s consumer business department, said company’s smartphones would fully support the Harmony OS 2.0 by next year. Devices with 128MB of RAM and 4GB storage will be upgraded to the system in April 2021, while all devices with more than 4GB of storage will be upgraded in October next year.
