Ro CEO Zach Reitano joins the Yahoo Finance Live show to discuss the weight-loss program Ro and its benefits in comparison to weight-loss drugs on the market.

Video Transcript

- Well, if you're paying attention to celebrities and influencers you've probably heard an awful lot about Ozempic, an FDA approved type 2 diabetes drug getting a lot of attention for its use as an off-label weight loss drug. Joining us now is Zach Reitano, the CEO of direct to patient health care company Ro, and Yahoo Finance's health reporter Anjalee Khemlani. Great to see you both.

So in New York City, you can see your ads for the weight loss program which uses Ozempic and other GLP-1 drugs. Zach, tell us specifically how your program works.

ZACH REITANO: Yeah, absolutely. Maybe I'll take a brief step back, and just give you a quick overview of Ro. Ro helps patients achieve their health care goals in the most effective and convenient way. And we've done that by seamlessly integrating a doctor's office pharmacy and labs.

And so for the body program mentioned in the subway campaign, patients come to us and they tell us, I want to lose weight, or I want high quality obesity care. And we deliver an end-to-end service for that. So patients come on. They'll go through a dynamic online visit, and for questions about their medical history, there are challenges with weight, any medications they're on, allergies.

If appropriate, they'll be eligible for a metabolic lab test that they can do at home or in person. And then pending their health history, and those lab tests in consultation with their provider, they'll see if treatment's right for them. If it is, we'll take on the burden and serve as their insurance concierge, and work with them, their provider, and their insurance plan to see if we can get medication covered.

And then the program starts. And that includes one-to-one provider care one-to-one coaching with nurses, weight tracking, ongoing labs, and an educational curriculum to provide high-quality ongoing obesity care.

Lawyers win big in $787.5 million Fox defamation case

The $787.5 million settlement that ended Dominion Voting Systems' defamation lawsuit against Fox Corp also marks the end of a lucrative, two-year legal battle for the sprawling teams of highly-paid lawyers on both sides. Dominion said Fox News broadcast false claims that the company’s voting machines were involved in a conspiracy to rig the 2020 U.S. presidential election, and won one of the biggest settlements paid in a defamation lawsuit. Delaware Superior Court Judge Eric Davis complimented the legal teams in court after Tuesday's settlement, saying he had not seen "as good of lawyering" in 13 years on the bench.

Chile's plan for state control in lithium dismays business

The Chilean government’s newly announced plan to have the state take a majority stake in the lithium industry disconcerted business leaders, though analysts cautioned that the proposal appears to try to strike a middle ground between competing interests. President Gabriel Boric announced in a national broadcast Thursday night that private companies will have to partner with the government in exploiting Chile's lithium, a metal used to make rechargeable batteries. Boric said the state would take a controlling interest in each partnership, leading some to call it a nationalization of the industry, while others disagreed.

Chile bid to boost state control over lithium spooks investors

SANTIAGO (Reuters) -Chile has moved to boost state control over its lithium industry as it seeks to diversify from mining into batteries and other areas, spooking investors in the country's dominant miners of the white metal, SQM and Albemarle Corp. Chile's progressive President Gabriel Boric late on Thursday announced the move that would see the world's second largest lithium producer shift to a model with the state holding a controlling interest in all projects through a public company that would partner with private mining firms. SQM's lithium contract in Chile is set to expire in 2030 and Albemarle's in 2043, giving it more insulation from the potential move.
