Metaverse的概念早在90年代初就出现了，源自科幻作家Stephenson的《雪崩》。Metaverse译为“元宇宙”，指的是基于互联网技术，打造一个“平行宇宙”。
无论是在国内还是国外，Metaverse都逐渐成为各大巨头公司争相热捧的概念。不仅是科技公司对此概念感兴趣，近日，韩国政府也开始为建设Metaverse而努力。

根据韩国科学和信息通信技术部的公告，韩国将在工业界发起一个联盟，以此建设Metaverse技术和生态系统。目前，除了韩国规模最大的移动运营商SK Telecom和Hyundai Motor等17家公司以外，韩国移动互联网商业协会等8个行业集团也将参加。
联盟内部成员之间将共享有关Metaverse趋势和技术相关的信息，并成立咨询委员会避免道德与文化的问题。科学和信息通信技术部将提供支持，以建立开发的虚拟宇宙平台为中心。
