Looks like M1 iMacs, new iPad Pro and updated Apple TV 4K will arrive May 21 [Updated]

iMacApple says only that the new iMacs will become available in the "second half of May."

According to (generally) reliable Apple tipster Jon Prosser, Apple will release the new iPad Pros with M1 chips and the faster Apple TV 4K with redesigned Siri Remote on May 21. And a leak straight outta Cupertino indicates the new M1-powered iMacs will arrive that day as well.

Apple showed off the new devices during last week’s Spring Loaded event. However, at the time, Apple kept the launch date vague, saying only that they would be available sometime in the second half of May. The devices will be available for preorder starting Friday, April 30.

The trifecta of devices are some of Apple’s most exciting new products in a while. The iMac, available in multiple colors, is the first redesign of the product’s exterior since 2012. It boasts an all-new, ultra-thin design, a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display with True Tone technology, 1080p FaceTime HD camera, up to 2TB of storage, and maximum of 16GB of RAM. Perhaps most significant of all is the fact that it comes with Apple’s M1 chip, marking the first time Apple Silicon has been available on iMac.

Update on this: iPad Pro launch is May 21st. The “22nd” date I mentioned is linked to the 5G model for a certain carrier and should be disregarded for the most part. Apple will also launch the new Apple TV on May 21st. https://t.co/A31ZulKGWa

The iPad Pro features the same M1 chip. While less of a major overhaul than the iMac, the M1 iPad still sounds like a game-changer. In addition to the cutting edge processor, it can handle up to 2TB of storage and 16GB of RAM.

The third device, the sixth-gen Apple TV 4K, packs Apple’s A12 Bionic chip, as seen in the iPhone XS. It offers high frame rate HDR (where available) in Ultra HD, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos. Notably, it also dumps Apple’s much-hated Siri Remote for a redesigned one which should make it a whole lot more compelling.

More evidence of May 21 release date

Today, Apple published a press release about tomorrow’s preorders. It doesn’t make any mention of the release date. However, eagle-eyed tech journalist Jason Aten notes that the press release’s metadata contains a reference to May 21. It’s not clear why Apple has yet to publicize this date.

Apple's press release goes to great length not to say exactly when new iMac and iPad Pro ship, but the metadata "description" says May 21 https://t.co/7OsGCGv8PW https://t.co/ktPOR6A6l3
