I noticed that the MacRumors article closing the door on the rumored 3/23 event does not have a discussion associated with it.

This was the first time I've seen that on this site, and I wanted to learn more about why.

I have seen this in the past, and other than PRSI topic, the lack of a discussion thread usually is a glitch or bug.

If it is a glitch, I think it will be fixed at some point.

We publish a small number of articles that don't appear on the front page of the site and don't have threads associated with them, as they are targeted at a different audience...those who may find them via search or social media.

That article, for example, is quite similar to this one from a few days earlier, so rather than perhaps annoying our core audience by "recycling" a previous story without adding any new information, we publish them quietly to be discovered through other means.

I see. I’m not sure if I’m in the minority on this but I had thought there was going to be an event because of this site.

Granted, I had not watched out for the press notification email confirmation we usually get but I was kind of surprised on the afternoon of the 23rd when there was no news.

So when this happened I went to try and find the post and had to dig for it.

Was this a surprise to the staff at MR that the event didn’t occur? Was there a lack of indications (like the typical press notification) that might have adjusted expectations before the event occurred?

There were rumors of a possible event on the 23rd, as there had been for the 16th, but it was pretty clear the week before that an event wasn't going to happen on the 23rd, which is why we published this article:

Apple has pretty much always announced its events at least a week ahead of time, so there's ample warning.
