阮春山2014年至2015年担任越国油董事长，进入越南石油系统前，他曾担任越南海洋商业银行总经理。越国油收购了该银行35％的股份。多年以来阮春山与该银行其他高管联手贪污腐败，造成国家财产损失共计1.6亿美元。阮春山涉案贪污1360万美元。
