SBI Group in Japan has announced plans to release non-fungible tokens (NFTs) using the XRP Ledger for the World Expo 2025, set to take place in Osaka, Japan.
Promotional materials preceding the event have revealed that attendees will have the opportunity to acquire unique NFTs featuring “MYAKU-MYAKU,” the official mascot of the EXPO. These exclusive non-fungible tokens will be distributed during the event, starting on April 13, 2025.
The term “myaku” in Japanese translates to a person’s pulse, and when repeated as “myaku myaku,” it conveys the idea of something occurring continuously over a prolonged period. The chosen name for the mascot symbolizes the passing down of knowledge, technological advancements, historical insights, cultural heritage, and global ties. The mascot’s design incorporates blue to signify pure water and red to depict living cells.

The “MYAKU-MYAKU” NFT collection will not hold any monetary value, and transactions for buying or selling will not be permitted, but authenticity will be verified. Creating a “wallet” (an online virtual container for managing digital assets) and minting these NFTs on the blockchain will be free. However, registration for the “EXPO2025 DIGITAL WALLET” app will necessitate presenting identification.
As SBI Group in Japan intensifies its preparations to release NFTs for an event in 2025, several American companies have started withdrawing protections for NFT purchases amidst a decrease in trading activity.
This week, PayPal announced changes to its purchase protection program, which will no longer cover NFT (non-fungible token) transactions starting May 20. PayPal revealed through an online post that its updated policy will not include NFTs or any transactions initiated on a third-party platform using PayPal funds.
GameStop disclosed in January that it had ceased operations of its NFT marketplace, indicating a step back from the digital currency arena. According to a statement released on its platform, the company cited “ongoing regulatory uncertainties in the cryptocurrency market” as the main reason for this move.
The 2025 World Expo is set to take place in Osaka, Japan. Japan’s financial sector, Osaka Digital Exchange Co., announced its plan to unveil its premier digital securities exchange. Known as ODX, this platform initiated the trading of digital securities, marking a significant milestone. At launch, it showcased security tokens from real estate companies Ichigo Inc. and Kenedix Inc. The first transactions on the platform were centered around securities anchored in real estate investments, specifically those from Ichigo.
