Vivo's first foldable now has two successors.

Major Chinese smartphone maker Vivo unveiled its next generation of foldable on Thursday in China, a further effort lining up in this vertical category.

After releasing X Fold 1 a year ago, Vivo now has another premium folding phone with the latest flagship processor and fast charging technology. It was called a "rulebreaker" because other folding phones usually don't come with top specs due to cost control. This time, the firm also followed sister brand Oppo's path, introducing a flip-folded phone, betting to succeed in the market.

Vivo X Fold 2 succeeds in the design of the first generation but with a lighter body – 278 g for the leather version (and 279 g for the glass version).

The phone has two high-resolution displays of 2K, and both feature under-display fingerprint unlock and 120-Hz refresh rate. The inner display is sized 8.03 inches at a 4:3.55 ratio, supporting an adaptive refresh rate, with max brightness hitting 1,800 nits.

The phone also supports folding to a specific angle to increase productivity in certain scenes.

It has a triple-camera system: a 50-megapixel (MP) primary camera, 12-MP ultrawide camera, and a 12-MP portrait one, featuring Zeiss T* coating layers for vibrant color and less glare effect.

A highlight is its 120 W wired and 50 W wireless charging tech for the 4800 mAh battery. Vivo claimed it could be charged to 100% in 26 minutes.

Benefit from the new customized Qualcomm Snapdragon Gen 2 SPU, it also has 12 GB LPDDR5X memory and up to 512 GB UFS 4.0 storage. Wi-Fi 7 is also an addition enabling better connectivity.

Available in three colors blue, red, and black, Vivo X Fold will land in China on April 28 with a price tag of 8,999 RMB - 9,999 RMB ($1,306.85 - $1,452.08).

Vivo X Flip

Vivo X Flip is more of a budget and delicate option. Almost weighing 200 g, the z-flip style foldable phone has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 running at a lower speed.

Its inner display, provided by Chinese display maker BOE, is 6.74 inches large, supporting an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. Vivo adopts a special glass on it to weaken the crease effect.

Vivo X Flip also has a large 3-inch outer display for essential information. Vivo also made optimization for over 30 popular apps to work better with the display.

It has a dual rear camera: a 50 MP primary camera and a 12 MP ultrawide one. Both have Zeiss T coating and cinematic mode. It also has a 32 MP front camera with an autofocus feature.

Built with a 4,400 mAh battery, Vivo X Flip can be charged at 44 W.

Coming in purple, gold, and black, the phone prices from 5,999 RMB to 6,699 RMB. It will be available on April 28 in China with two memory options: 12 GB RAM plus 255 GB storage and 12 GB RAM plus 512 GB storage.

However, Vivo has yet to reveal its plan for a global release of X Fold 2 and X Flip.
