GPT-4 sparks concerns: Musk and several experts calls for a halt

The AI debate format built by OpenAI in the US has gained interest on a global scale. Microsoft, the company’s main investor, began to assess the GPT-4 model’s effects on future people of all ages. It has shown human-level performance on a variety of professional and academic standard exams. This includes the ability to pass the mock bar exam and place in the top 10%. GPT-4 is a large-scale multimodal model that can produce human-like words.

GPT-4 does, however, carry several possible risks that could harm both society and people. A six-month halt on the development of systems more robust than GPT-4 was sought in an open letter by Tesla founder, Elon Musk. Musk is not the only one making this request. Several AI experts are also making similar demands. They believe that at this rate, there is a need for external security protocol and expert evaluation. They also emphasized the risk of economic and political turmoil brought on by advanced AI systems. Thus, they urge developers to work with lawmakers to create policy bodies.

Musk, Wozniak and others sign GPT-4 halt letter

Musk, Apple co – founder Steve Wozniak, and Stableility AI CEO Emad Mostaker are among the signatories of the letter. The letter is from an NGO, Future of Life Institute. There were more than 1,000 signers. In part, the letter reads

“Strong AI systems should only be developed if we are confident that the effects are positive and the risks are manageable,”

The EU’s police agency, Europol, also voiced ethical and legal worries about cutting – edge AI systems like ChatGPT on Monday. It cautions that such systems might be abused for phishing, fraud, and cyber – crime. Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which was released last year, has inspired rivals to obtain similar solutions. Many brands are now using the system or similar tech in their products and apps. However, OpenAI claims that it is doing all it can to ensure GPT-4 is safe. The company claims that it has spent six months working on GPT-4 to achieve the best results in terms of stability, real results and safe range.
