Motorola is all set to launch a bunch of new smartphones. The company’s master plan surely involves the Moto X40 release, but we also expect a bunch of mid-range phones to reach the market soon. The roster of mid-range phones will soon get a new Play variant in the form of the Moto G Play (2022). The device will arrive sometime in the next two months, after all, it has 2022 in the name.

The upcoming Moto G Play (2022) had some of its details leaked today. Along with a couple of renders courtesy of 91Mobiles. We already say that this device is anything but impressive. However, the goal of the “Play” series is to offer adequate performance for everyday tasks at an affordable price tag. That said, the Moto G Play (2022) will likely fit in the shoes of its predecessors.

Moto G Play (2022) specifications

The Moto G Play (2022) will sport a 6.5-inch IPS LCD Screen with 1,600 x 720 pixels of resolution. The refresh rate is not specified, so we can only assume it’s a regular 60 Hz panel. This is also confirmed by the use of the MediaTek Helio G37 SoC at the helm. This chipset can’t handle higher refresh rates. The Quad-Core SoC from the past will come alongside 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of Internal Storage. While the RAM amount is ok for basic tasks, it’s easy to fill that storage amount nowadays. Anyway, as a good mid-range phone, we expect a micro SD card slot for further expansion.

The Moto G Play (2022) will draw its power from a 5,000 mAh battery that charges slowly at 10W. In terms of optics, there is a triple-camera setup just for the numbers. We have a 16 MP main camera, a 2 MP macro shooter, and a 2 MP depth snapper. The selfies are taken by a 5 MP shooter. The Moto G Play (2022) will run Android 12. It’s unclear if it’s a full-fledged Android or the Go version. Considering the specs, we assume that the Go tier would be the best take.

Looking at the specs, the Moto G Play is really modest. The real deal is in the price, but that remains a mystery. We expect it to come under the $150 price tag, otherwise, it will certainly fail. But you can expect anything at these times of inflation.
