苹果将iPadOS 16的推出时间延迟到10月份，换言之，按以前的惯例iPadOS 16和iOS 16会在9月同步推出，现在iPadOS 16押后了。
苹果为iPad开发了多任务功能，名叫Stage Manager，它的目标是为平板提供更加像Mac的多窗口多任务体验。iPadOS 16推迟据说和Stage Manager有一定关系，因为苹果还在修正Bug。既然iPadOS 16推迟，苹果可以先花多一点时间打磨iOS 16，然后再转战iPadOS 16。
Stage Manager只面向M1 iPad Pro和iPad Air，老旧的iPad无法支持。2019年iPadOS从iOS分离成为独立系统。
苹果正在开发新的M2 iPad Pro和支持USB-C的入门级iPad，它们预计会在今年年末推出。
