Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is coming – several brands are testing

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

In the Android flagship market, Qualcomm is no doubt the top player. Even when the Dimensity 9000 beats the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 on paper and practically, many brands still opts for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Now, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is here are several brands are already prioritizing this chip. The market seems to favour Snapdragon chips on flagship smartphones more than any other brand. Thus, it is safe to call Qualcomm the “King of Android flagship SoC”. The new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 uses TSMC’s 4nm process. This not only improves its performance but also optimizes the power consumption, heat generation and battery life. Thus, the new processor comes with significant improvements. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will also use the same manufacturing process.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has satisfactory performance

According to Twitter blogger @UniverseIce, several major manufacturers are already testing the 8550 (Snapdragon 8 Gen2). From the results of the testing so far, these brands are very happy with its performance. At present, the overall energy efficiency of the 8550 will be better than that of the 8475 (Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1). There is at least a 15% improvement.

Recall that the Snapdragon 888 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 had serious heating issues. This issue made the cooling technology in smartphones swiftly develop. If the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 does not reverse the heat dissipation, then the good chip will meet the good heat dissipation.

As we all know, Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, Snapdragon 888+, and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 are all manufactured by Samsung. However, the market performance of Samsung’s manufacturing process did not meet market expectations. In fact, some had to nickname the Snapdragon 888 “Fire Dragon” because of its heating issues.

According to reports, Qualcomm will release the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flagship processor at the end of this year, which will also be manufactured by TSMC. Different from the “1+3+4” adopted by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 adopts a new “1+2+2+3” eight-core architecture design, with one more large core and one less small core.
