2020年，中国卫星导航系统管理办公室主任冉承其介绍，北斗已是联合国认可的四大全球卫星导航系统之一。
近日，北斗天汇董事长刘忠华 在央视财经《对话》节目中表示，
现在的北斗三号全球系统不比GPS差，定位精度、定位授时、测速测高等跟它相当。
据刘忠华介绍：“我们最特色的东西，就是短报文通信。当电话没有信号了， 只要有北斗的终端，就可以把位置和要说的话，用短信的方式发到求救中心来。 所以除了在相同精度、范围、区域进行比较之外，我们还多一个特点。”
百度百科资料显示，北斗卫星导航系统由空间段、地面段和用户段三部分组成，可在全球范围内全天候、全天时为各类用户提供高精度、高可靠定位、导航、授时服务。
