The company had a good reason to praise the M2

Apple launched the M2 chip with much fanfare earlier this month, and according to leaked Geekbench data, the company had every reason to brag about its new processor.

More specifically, it looks like the M2 is insanely fast as compared to the M1, and some of the Geekbench numbers are right on par with Apple’s claims.

More specifically, the leaked benchmarks suggest the M2 is clocked at 3.49GHz, whereas the speed of the M1 was 3.2Ghz. The single-core performance reveals an increase of over 11.5 percent, while the multi-core numbers indicate a boost of no more, no less than 19.45 percent.

Apple’s own figures

Earlier this month when it announced the M2 chip, Apple claimed the new model was approximately 18 percent faster than its predecessor.

In other words, Apple’s numbers match the ones on Geekbench, so the company was clearly right about the performance gain of the new processor.

“Built using second-generation 5-nanometer technology, M2 takes the industry-leading performance per watt of M1 even further with an 18 percent faster CPU, a 35 percent more powerful GPU, and a 40 percent faster Neural Engine. It also delivers 50 percent more memory bandwidth compared to M1, and up to 24GB of fast unified memory. M2 brings all of this — plus new custom technologies and greater efficiency — to the completely redesigned MacBook Air and updated 13-inch MacBook Pro,” Apple said.

It shouldn’t take too long before we find out if all these numbers are accurate though. As per Apple, the M2 chip will make its way to the 2022 MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro, with the latter projected to launch for pre-order this week. The new MacBook Air doesn’t have a release date at this point, but expect the device to go on sale later this year anyway.
