A select range of Philips Ambilight LED and OLED TV’s are now available in Australia and they all run Android TV.

Ambilight’s dynamic lightshow bathes your room in warm, immersive light. Intelligent LEDs behind the edges of the screen cast on-screen colours onto the wall, in real time.

I get the appeal of this because several years ago I stuck a smart Philips LED Lightstrip around the back edges of my TV so it could be set to a glowing colour of my choice while my family watched TV.

The difference with Amblight is the LED’s are built-in to the back edges of the TV and integrated into playback so they change immediately to complement whatever you’re watching or listening to on the TV.

Philips Ambilight TV’s sold in Australia are manufactured by TP Vision Europe B.V. (TP Vision) a Dutch company with HQ in Amsterdam. TP Vision is a wholly owned company of China based TPV Technology Limited (TPV), the world’s largest Monitor and TV displays (combined) manufacturer. You may have heard of one of their brands AOC.

Leveraging cutting-edge Philips technology and intelligent LEDs implemented behind the edges of the TV screen, Ambilight casts on-screen colours onto the wall in real time radiating colourful light from two, three or all four sides of the TV screen, automatically synchronised to the display content.

So whether you are watching sports, movies, music or gaming, the Ambilight technology creates a more enchanting, engaging and memorable viewing experience.

The post-pandemic era has induced a spike in Australian’s digital consumption. According to Deloitte’s consumer trends survey, Smart TV expenditure alone increased 64 percent since 2020.

Ambilight has several settings including Follow Video and Music mode. The Follow Light mode is potentially even more immersive by enabling you to change other Phlips Hue lights in a room to create an experiential in-room lightshow.

The Ambisleep feature helps you get a restful night sleep. Viewers can turn off the screen while leaving the Ambilight to stimulate a fading sunset with your choice of duration, brightness and colour palette, accompanied by a range of relaxing nature sounds. The additional ‘Sunrise Alarm’ element reverses this process, with the Ambilight gradually ramping up an artificial sunrise at your chosen alarm time.

The calming visuals can be accompanied by a selection of music at your volume level preference, and a screen transition showing the weather forecast for the day ahead. The ‘Sunrise Alarm’ feature has up to five sound options that can be programmed to your preference.

You can find Philips 8265 series, 7906 series, OLED805 series in Harvey Norman online and instore, with more Ambilight models coming to Australia soon. For further details visit the Philips Ambilight TV website.
