《三体》中对暗物质的解释为二维宇宙，这或许误导了很多人：二维宇宙并非没有厚度，只是厚度非常小，也许就是个基本粒子的尺寸，但那终究是厚度，因此不可能成为暗物质。
那么暗物质究竟是什么？事实上，我们不知道暗物质是什么，只知道它不是什么：暗物质不是不发光的普通物质；暗物质也不是反物质；暗物质也不是组成黑洞的物质。
