美国国防部高级研究计划署(DARPA) 在没有飞行员的情况下试飞了一架 UH-60A 黑鹰直升飞机。飞行持续了 30 分钟，直升机配备了 Sikorsky Matrix 公司研发的自主飞行技术。DARPA 战术技术办公室的项目经理 Stuart Young 称，飞行员可以将注意力集中在任务管理而不是机械操作上。自主飞行系统能在白昼和黑夜，有或没有飞行员，以及各种困难环境下操作飞机的能力。美国军方多年来一直在进行自主飞行的直升飞机试验。
