Nope, they’re not the gadgets you’ve been waiting for

Microsoft is working on several new features for Windows 11, and most recently, Twitter user @thebookisclosed came across something that many users are going to live.

It’s support for wallpaper stickers, a new idea that will be offered in Windows 11 as another personalization feature. Interestingly, Microsoft will also develop a new Sticker Editor app that will allow users to configure these stickers.

“There's an interesting personalization feature coming to Windows 11 - Stickers for your wallpaper. You'll be able to configure them using a new Sticker Editor app, they'll persist across wallpaper changes as long as you don't use a slideshow, use Fill fit & have only 1 monitor,” the cited Twitter user posted.

They are likely to be static

While it’s still unclear how these stickers are going to work and what exactly is their purpose in Windows 11, it looks like they won’t be the modern desktop gadgets that so many people have been waiting for.

The desktop gadgets were available in Windows Vista and Windows 7, but Microsoft eventually ditched them because of security reasons. And while many believed the Redmond-based software giant would bring them back at one point, included in the form of live tiles that would be pinned to the desktop, such a comeback never actually happened.

According to Albacore, the stickers aren’t expected to be animated, as for now, there’s evidence they will be static and applied once every wallpaper change.

At this point, however, it’s still not clear when exactly Microsoft plans to bring the stickers to the Windows 11 desktop, but given the first code has already been spotted in testing builds, it shouldn’t take too long before they show up in Insider builds.

Microsoft will roll out a major Windows 11 update later this month, but obviously, these stickers won’t be included as their development is still in the early phases.
