Edge version 98.0.1108.43 is now available for download

Microsoft has just released a new stable version of Microsoft Edge, and just as expected, it comes with lots of improvements, fixes, and new features.

First and foremost, Microsoft says it has added new security improvements that are available on all supported desktop platforms.

“This is a browsing mode in Microsoft Edge where browser security takes priority, giving users an extra layer of protection when browsing the web. Administrators can apply group policies to end-user desktops (Windows, macOS, and Linux) to help protect against in-the-wild exploits (also referred to 0-days),” the company says.

Then, given more and more users run Microsoft Edge with several profiles, the company has specifically tried to enhance this experience by adding new options for multi-profile configurations. Starting with this update, users can create a customized list of sites for automatic profile switching in Microsoft Edge.

A new version for the user agent string

The scrollbars in Microsoft Edge are also getting an overlay-based design, but for the time being, this isn’t enabled by default. Users can manually enable them from edge://flags.

The Redmond-based software giant explains that it’s getting ready for a big change that would take place with the release of Edge 100. The browser will make the switch to a three-digit version number in the user agent string, something that obviously happens in other Chromium browsers as well, including Google Chrome.

“This is a browsing mode in Microsoft Edge where browser security takes priority, giving users an extra layer of protection when browsing the web. Administrators can apply group policies to end-user desktops (Windows, macOS, and Linux) to help protect against in-the-wild exploits (also referred to 0-days),” Microsoft says.

The new update also includes a series of new policies, and you can check them out in the list on this page. The new version can be downloaded from the link included in the article.
