Latest preview build comes with new context menu entries
Microsoft keeps working on polishing the experience with Windows 11, and the most recent preview build rolled out to insiders comes with additional improvements for File Explorer.
Starting with Windows 11 build 22518, File Explorer features new options as top level entries, as it follows:
- “Install” when right clicking on font files and .inf files.
- “Install certificate” when right clicking on .cer files.
- “Map network drive” and “Disconnect network drive” when right clicking on This PC.
- “Disconnect” when right clicking on network drives.
More improvements for Windows 11
The context menus have changed substantially in Windows 11, and at this point, there’s still no refresh option as a top-level entry, unless you right-click the desktop.
Microsoft, however, is working on multiple fronts to improve Windows 11, and this latest preview build also includes additional changes, including for the emoji available in the operating system, as well as more refinements for the multi-monitor configurations out there.
“The ability for personalized combinations of emoji based on face and skin tones of family members, couples with heart, kissing, and people holding hands which we began rolling out with Build 22504 is now available to all Insiders in the Dev Channel,” Microsoft explained.
“Starting with Build 22509, we began rolling out a change to display your clock and date will now also be displayed on the taskbars of the secondary monitor or monitors. This is now available to all Insiders in the Dev Channel.”
This latest preview build is exclusive to users in the Windows Insider program that are enrolled in the Dev channel, and of course, nobody knows for sure when Microsoft intends to bring the updated context menus to all users out there. The rollout of Windows 11 continues in the meantime, with Microsoft still aiming to complete it by the summer of 2022.
