Abstract

Agile methods like SCRUM have become the de facto standard framework for software development in many companies. But broad adoption also means that there is a significant potential to deviate from the original ideas and intentions of agile methods: The focus on the production of useful software by efficient teams then is at risk of being overshadowed by rigid processes, large overhead, or aimlessness. In this talk, we will explore practical examples from various companies regarding the kinds of deviations we encountered (even though by name agile methodology is still being adhered to), and the lessons we learned from such situations.

Speaker

Philip Rauwolf has been part of itestra GmbH for 10 years. He joined the company after he finished his M.Sc. in Computer Science at the University of Passau in 2012. At itestra, he has worked (and still works) as a software developer, project leader and consultant for several large and some not-so-large companies in business areas like logistics, automotive, insurance or banking. He is experienced in working in and with teams of different sizes, with some of them having a startlingly different approach to the (by name) same agile methodology.
