89 岁的 Manfred Steiner 终于如愿以偿：成为一名物理学家。9 月 15 日，这位布朗大学物理系博士生通过了博士论文《Corrections to the Geometrical Interpretation of Bosonization》的答辩。Steiner 出生在维尔纳，二战爆发后去了美国，他对物理学一直充满热情，但高中毕业后他的叔叔和母亲建议他读医，因为在动荡的战后时期学医是一种更好的选择。他听取了他们的建议，1955 年从维也纳大学获得医学博士学位，1967 年在 MIT 获得生物化学博士学位，1978 年成为布朗大学的医学教授，2000 年退休。但对物理学的热情从未远离他。在近 70 岁的时候他决定进入物理学。他先是去 MIT 读物理学，但因为通勤距离太遥远之后转到布朗大学。2000 年入学布朗大学读物理学本科课程。他起初没有计划拿第三个博士学位。
