The Universal Beijing Resort (UBR) announced Monday it is scheduled to formally open to the public on September 20, which coincides with the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday from September 19 to 21 this year

Details: The park, with seven themed lands covering 37 recreational facilities, also said that its trial operations will start on September 1.

UBR is a joint venture between Comcast Corp’s Universal Parks & Resorts and state-owned Beijing Shouhuan Cultural Tourism Investment.

Located in southeast Beijing, it's the fifth Universal Studios theme park globally, the third in Asia, and the first in China. 

Universal Studios announced the development of the resort in 2014, saying at the time it would cost $3.3 billion.

The theme park boasts Beijing's first landscape-style Metro station, which is linked with Beijing's suburban Metro line Batong and Metro Line 7.

All Metro stations, bus lines, and expressway exits were in use last Thursday to cope with traffic demands while the UBR conducts internal pressure tests and trial runs.

Context: Chinese tourists have shown great passion for the theme park, which makes the scalpers take advantage of the loophole. The scalpers resell the extra tickets obtained by invited guests during the soft opening period to others in order to obtain high profits. A free invitation ticket can be sold for up to to 5,000 yuan ($773.91). The Beijing police said on August 21 that they had detained four scalpers for reselling the tickets.
