The launch could happen during a summer Unpacked event

We’ve known for a while that Samsung is working on a Wear OS smartwatch, and now it looks like the South Korean company is finally ready to launch it.

Samsung teased the device at MWC earlier this week, and the company also dropped hints of a new Unpacked event in the summer that could witness the debut of the new smartwatch.

Likely called Galaxy Watch 4, the new device will come with a new One UI experience that will run on top of Wear OS. So while Google’s wearable operating system will be the owner powering Samsung’s new smartwatch, the South Koreans placed a special skin on it, so it’ll provide a more familiar experience to existing users.

No other specifics have been provided, so we don’t know exactly when the new Samsung smartwatch is projected to see the daylight, though the Unpacked event is very likely to take place in August.

New smartphones coming in the summer too

Furthermore, Samsung is also expected to take the wraps off other devices during the same event, including the new Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Flip smartphones.

“The Galaxy Experience is grounded in the idea that innovation should empower people. The Galaxy ecosystem of connected devices, services, and partnerships provide people with choice, freedom, and possibility. We’re reimagining smartwatches, creating new opportunities for both developers and consumers. And we’re enhancing security, giving people the protection they need in an open and connected world,” Samsung said in a MWC session description.

The August Unpacked event was typically used by Samsung for the Galaxy Note series, but this time, the company will skip this model and stick with the rest of the devices.

While some believe the Note series could be dead for good, Samsung could launch a new model next year. In the meantime, the company is working on bringing some of its features, including S Pen support, to more devices in its lineup.
