what's a good hex editor - preferably for windows - for annotating structs and stuff?

I'd normally use audacity but I figure there's gotta be something better for this

on that note, Audacity needs a hex sample view on the timeline, when you're at enough of a zoom to see individual samples.

okay that's an amazing way to use Audacity

we're impressed

anyway what we would normally do is pipe the output of hexdump -C into a text file and edit things that way

see, at least I'm not using Audacity for my image editor. I've already got imagemagick, ed(1) and png2pbm for that anyway

This has gotta be the wackiest use for Audacity I've seen.

I'd probably go with some disassembler myself.

I'd say the same about doing seismology with Audacity! :D

ReHex might fit your use case (free!). I sometimes use it when trying to figure out file formats, especially since it supports comments and highlights :

I personally use a mix of Okteta, and wxHexEditor (which praises allah ever 5 seconds on stdout)
