Huobi, OKEx, and Binance Official Accounts Have Been Blocked on China’s Most Popular Social Media
March 12, 2021 2:21 amBeijing (PingWest)—The official Weibo accounts of Huobi, OKEx, and Binance, the most widely used crypto trading platforms in China, were blocked. Weibo, which holds over 500 million monthly active users, is equivalent to Twitter in China.
The accounts of Huobi and Binance showed that "the account was complained of violating laws and regulations and the relevant provisions of the Weibo community convention", and the OKEx account showed that "the user does not exist".
It is unclear what caused Weibo to block these accounts. "These accounts are suspected of violating laws and community rules," Weibo declared, without providing further explanations.
Although it is not the first time Binance's Weibo account has been blocked, it is the first time that accounts of the top three exchanges have been blocked simultaneously.
