Sony removes Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store, offers full refunds to users

Cyberpunk 2077, once touted as a contender for Game of the Year award, had a troubled launch last week. The game was full of bugs and glitches, not to mention terrible performance on Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

Earlier, CD Projekt Red (CDPR) issued a public apology, promised refunds, and vowed to fix the game. Now, Sony has gone ahead and delisted the title from the PlayStation Store. Effective immediately, Sony is allowing all PlayStation players to request a no-questions-asked refund for the digital version Cyberpunk 2077 purchased from the store. PlayStation users will now see a refund option in their library that they can use to get a refund if they don't want to hold onto Cyberpunk 2077. CDPR, on the other hand, said that console users can expect two big patches in January and February 2021. However, if you don't want to wait or are unhappy with the game, then you can go ahead and ask Sony for a refund.

Following the announcement, CDPR has published a statement confirming the delisting. The company acknowledged Sony's decision and noted that it was taken after a discussion between both the parties. CDPR also assured that the game will continue to receive support regardless of Sony's decision to remove the game. Moreover, it also noted that gamers can still buy physical copies of the game, should they wish to do so.

After this drastic step, it will be interesting to see if Microsoft will do the same considering the fact that Cyberpunk 2077 runs poorly on Xbox One consoles as well. That said, the game runs reasonably well on Xbox Series X|S.

Update: In a statement to Reuters, Adam Kicinski, President, CDPR has confirmed that the company is not in talks with Microsoft about the possible delisting of Cyberpunk 2077 from the Microsoft Store after Sony decided to remove the game from the PlayStation Store.
