Kuaishou Adds New Faces into Its Executive Core
posted on December 9, 2020 9:00 pm
Several executive that joined the company after 2016 were promoted to Kuaishou's 2020 version of Operation and Management Committee.
Chinese video-sharing platform Kuaishou announced Tuesday few critical changes in its latest management optimization progress.
In the latest adjustment, Kuaishou's core body, entitled Operation & Management Committee, has introduced several executives, including VPs responsible for the product, internationalization (under the brand of Kwai), E-commerce, AI, etc.
Among the list of kuaishou's 2020 version of OMC are a few new faces, six of whom joined the company after 2016, according to LatePost, an online technology and business outlet. They include Yan Qiang, who's head of operations, growth, and marketing, and Liu Feng, Kuaishou's HR head who personally oversaw the establishment of the OMC mechanism as the company's core leadership structure. Co-founder and CEO Su Hua, and co-founder Cheng Yixiao are both still on the list.
The mechanism is designed to cope with one of the most imminent problems the company has been facing: the asymmetry between its fast-paced business expansion and the improvement of corporate leaders' management skills.

According to Kuaishou's IPO prospectus filed to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange last month, the proportion of revenue from Kuaishou's live streaming declined from 95.3% in 2017 to 68.5% in the first half of 2020. In comparison, online marketing services, e-commerce, online games, and value-added services are growing steadily.
The Douyin competitor also claims to have the world's most considerable live streaming virtual gift rewards and average monthly paying users.

The committee mechanism was launched in April 2019 when this 2011-found video-sharing giant vowed to refine their human resources management. This goal leads to building a united, transparent decision-making team and a talent management system.
Starting in 2019, Kuaishou HR department has been implementing the K (professional) and M (management) grade system, which is similar to that of Alibaba's, to improve its internal personnel promotion channel.
It is also worth noticing that the newly announced committees are alphabetically ranked by their name rather than their actual power or position. A source close to the company said to LatePost that this list aims to "strike a balance between bureaucracy and equality." [link in Chinese]
