These are often overlooked, but they make the biggest impact on your designs. Here are some of the skills every good UX designer should have.

High level of Observation.

When you observe the real world around you, you’ll draw inspiration that can be later applied to your designs.

This natural curiosity of observing things around you will lead to impactful decisions in your designs that are not found in any textbooks.

Clearly defining the problem statement.

They say, “Well begun is half done.”

In design, when you understand the problem deeply, your design is almost half done. Before jumping into solving these problems, spend a lot of time understanding the problem, objectives, and the vision for the solution. This will also set you on the right trajectory for user research.

Having a signature design strength.

Every good UX designer has a unique journey from conception to implementation to evaluation. Though you may have various design skills, having a signature design strength will enable you to work around a central point.

For example, your design journey could be centered around the latest design trends or the in-depth understanding of the technology at hand.

Ability to make High Fidelity prototypes.

Your design comes to life from the high fidelity prototypes you make. World-class products can be created only when you can take your head's ideas and display them onto a screen.

Having finer details in your prototypes ensures high-quality designs.

Presentation.

Along with other design skills, you need to communicate your designs with the stakeholders clearly.

Most of the great designers can clearly present the details and rationale behind their designs. When you can present well to developers, colleagues, and other stakeholders, your designs are sure to be implemented well.

Continuous learning.

Designers need to be updated with the latest technologies as well as design trends.

Learn and grow.

Playing around with native gestures and controls of new media devices will help you create designs for these new interfaces.

Rooted in Experience Design.

Designers should focus on the overall experience of the users. It’s not about perfecting just the UI. You need to consider all the user touchpoints and ensure that users have a delightful feeling at the end of their journey.

UX, as the name goes, is all about User Experience.

And a good experience is created only when the entire product feels useful to the user. That sums it up. Mastering UX design is not about skimming through a lot of skills.

It’s about going deep into a few key skills that make all the impact.
