The HackerRank Developer Skills Report 2019 has been published. In 2018, JavaScript was the most widely used language among the respondents.

HackerRank has published the HackerRank Developer Skills Report 2019. The survey, which is the basis of the report, involved a total of 71,281 professional and student developers from more than 100 countries. The survey was conducted online between 5 and 27 November 2018 by HackerRank. The participants were addressed via e-mail and social media. There are currently over five million developers registered with HackerRank.

Which languages ​​do developers know?

The survey participants were asked which programming languages ​​they know. In 2017, JavaScript was the most popular language among the participants with 73.17%. This was followed by Java (70.69%), C (62.84%), Python (57.02%) and C ++ (55.77%). In the 2017 survey, the same five languages ​​were ahead, albeit in a different order: Java (71.2%), JavaScript (67.89%), C (63.18%), C ++ (55.6%), and Python ( 49.44%). While Java and C were mentioned less frequently in 2018 than in 2017, the value for C ++ has barely changed. By contrast, JavaScript and Python gained five and seven percentage points, respectively, over the previous year.
