SpaceX 的 Falcon 9 火箭于 5 月 26 日 18:59 UTC 从佛罗里达的卡纳维拉尔将 60 颗 Starlink 宽带卫星发射到轨道上。这是 SpaceX 在 2021 年的第 16 次发射，Falcon 9 火箭连续 100 次成功发射，过去 33 天的第 6 次发射。Falcon 9 火箭的第一级成功着陆在 Just Read the Instructions 无人驳船上，它此前只用过一次，是在去年 11 月执行了 NASA 的 Sentinel-6A 任务。SpaceX 的 Starlink 星座在轨卫星数量已经超过了 1700 颗，而它的下一次发射将是在下个月。天文学家此前对低轨道上如此多的卫星可能影响天文观测表达了担忧，而 SpaceX 尝试用暗色卫星降低亮度来解决这个问题，但这导致了加热的问题。SpaceX 从 2020 年 8 月起发射的 Starlink 卫星都安装了遮阳伞，遮阳伞显著降低了卫星的平均亮度。
