Huawei Nova 2i announced with FullView display and four cameras
Last week, Huawei announced its first smartphone with an 18:9 display in China, the Maimang 6. The company has now announced the international version of the handset, dubbed the Nova 2i. The name of the device is certainly surprising, as a report published by VentureBeat earlier this month had claimed the Maimang 6 would be sold outside China as the Mate 10 Lite. Before the report was published, rumors were suggesting it could debut as the G10 in other markets.
The Huawei Nova 2i sports a 5.9-inch FullView display with 1080 x 2160 Full HD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by HiSilicon’s Kirin 659 octa-core processor, paired with 4GB of RAM. In terms of storage, the Nova 2i includes 64GB of internal memory, which can be expanded further by up to 128GB with a microSD card.
In the camera department, Nova 2i impresses with a dual-camera setup both at the rear as well as the front. The rear dual-camera setup comprises a 16MP primary sensor and a 2MP secondary sensor for depth-sensing. For selfies, the handset features a 13MP + 2MP configuration, complemented by a soft LED flash for taking selfies in low-light. For fun selfie shots, the camera app includes various filters similar to the ones you find in Snapchat. You can also record short 2-second movies to share with your friends. The fingerprint sensor, as can be seen above, is placed below the rear dual-camera setup.
In terms of connectivity, the Huawei Nova 2i offers Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, GPS with GLONASS, NFC, and 4G VoLTE. The battery inside the Nova 2i is a 3340mAh unit, although fast charging is not supported. It will ship with the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system out of the box, with the company’s EMUI 5.1 custom UI layer running on top. So far, the Nova 2i has only made an appearance in Malaysia, where it will be available in Black, Blue, and Gold colors very soon. Huawei hasn’t confirmed anything just yet, but we do hope that the smartphone makes its way to India in the coming weeks.
