Hi All, I shared this feedback earlier this week with /u/projectficm. I asked for an update but the team hasn't made a decision yet on what they're doing. They are looking into the feedback though!

...I feel like a bag isn't sufficient protection for a phone to be shipped.

level 2

I'm going to shoot a short video of my phone functioning well and it's condition before I mail it in.

level 2

I was a bit upset about this when I got my "kit" a few days ago.

But I realized... my X4 will be shipped to me in a box, and that box should be perfectly cromulent to use to mail in my trade-in.

level 2

No way that's how I'm shipping mine back. My 5x is pristine, but it won't be if I only use that little bubble bag. Crikey, Google.

It would be fine if it was thick bubble wrap, but oh well. As long as we get paid according to the condition prior to being crushed in transit.

level 2

Especially while my screen is already cracked.

level 2

put 2 pieces of cardboard to add rigidity

level 1

Shit. I got mine a few days ago but I didn't even realize I could've gotten karma.

level 2

78 of them even.

level 1

Build a case out of the Fi legos, stuff it in the envelope, and send it in!

level 2

I still have mine brand new. Maybe they'll be worst something one day...

level 1

I guess that means we keep the USB charger?

level 2

I don't see why you wouldn't. I've gotten two replacement 5xs so far due to Bootloop and all they wanted was the phone. They even gave me a new charger each time.

level 2

That's actually quite the bonus. The fast chargers for my N6 are like $30+

level 2

I've had to send phones in for replacement a few times. The only thing that goes back is the phone, no charger, no sim, no case.

level 1

Got mine yesterday and was pretty shocked. I mean, I'm just sending in a 5x for like $100. I'd be pissed if I was sending in an XL for $400 with a good screen and, upon receipt the screen was broken which would drastically reduce the value.

level 2

I might send in my XL for the XL 2. I'll just take a picture of it next to the bag beforehand.

level 1

OP here: I just finished a chat with Fi support. I explained my concerns with the packing material (or lack thereof), and they finally caved and told me that as long as the phone is in the bubble mailer, I can put it in a box and slap the shipping label on it. They did say to mark clearly on the box its for trade in.

We'll see how this goes.

level 2

What a bizarre thing to give you a hard time about... You'd think they would want to protect their product since they purchased it from you.

level 2

Thanks. That was I was wondering about.

level 2

I have a feeling you may have just shipped your phone into an endless void.

level 1

Make sure to take photos of your phone before you put it in that packaging. Then take photos of it in their shitty packaging. They won't have any excuse if it arrives damaged.

level 2

I'd suggest a photo with the imei and date visible.

level 1

Is the return label already affixed to the padded envelope? I would hope you could just cut it off and put it on onto a small box, if so.

level 2

No, the return label is printed on a separate sheet of paper.

level 1

This is pretty typical for this sort of thing. I work at Best Buy in phone sales and this is the same mailer we provide for customers who have to give back phones to carriers as part of the upgrade. 3 years of this type of shipping material and have never had a customer with a phone damaged shipping like this.

Just affix the bubble wrapped envelope to a box that's filled with your phone wrapped in bubble wrap.

level 1

Why did they send you solder and tip tinner? Are you supposed to short all the charging port contacts together? Why?

level 1

Truly disappointed by this. Seems to be woefully insufficient. Come on Google, this is embarrassing.

level 2

It's really not Google, it's the third party they are using - Hyla Mobile

level 1

I'm probably trading in my pristine 32GB XL. I'm just going to leave it in its case (that has protected it thus far) and leave the screen protector on. I am then going to affix a piece of cardboard that covers the screen, then wrap the phone in a layer of bubble wrap... This will work.

level 2

Same here. Do we send the trade in phone after we get the pixel XL 2?

level 2

Wouldn't you get more money if you sold the Pixel XL? Especially if it's NIB.

level 1

Sweet they sent you some solder and flux! I can't read the label, is it quality solder?

level 1

So put it in a cardboard box and ship it. Why is this so difficult to understand?

level 2

Ya, if you're trading in for the Moto x4 then you've got a box about the right size to stick it in for the way back.

level 1

Is the solder lead free?

level 1

If you're worried, couldn't you wrap the phone in some extra bubble wrap or other padding, then put that into the envelope?

level 1

I love that it comes with solder!! 😂😂

level 1

Really hesitant to trade in my office ly working phone I can use on Fi... hoping to keep 6P around in case my next phone breaks...good to have a backup while going through a warranty or repair process.

level 1

how much are they offering for a 12gb Pixel XL? and where do I sign up?

i feel like ill find the answers by googling this but here we are

level 2

How did you get a 12gb phone?? /s
