Operating system stuff
The other day I went and got a Chromebook. Why? Because I was super bored. Okay, not really but I did get it because I wanted to test something out for work. I wanted to see what it would take to get an app to run on the system and possibly document it for others. Now, the thing is there are quite a few things to take into account here.
The biggest thing to think about is the specifications of the machine. Not all Chromebooks are the same. Some are fairly old and have limited ability to store things. The reason for that is they are really mostly meant for browser-like applications to be run. Super great for some things but when it comes to wanting to do some other things like editing photos, using an app like GIMP is not super easy to install without having to do some additional setup.
The good part is it can be done. Again, it does take a little bit of effort to get it all working. Now the issue being that a person had reached out stating they were not able to install the application and I wanted to see what it could take to actually get it installed. The machine I got was a super simple and fairly minimal one for my needs. I think though that if the install doesn’t pan out, I will use it for installing a different operating system. Linux.
Because of course I will.
The thing here is that I’ll need to find one that is fairly light because it’s a pretty old processor that’s used. The one thing I should have really looked more into was what that person’s specifications were.
