Is it just me or is anyone else tired of reading/hearing about imposter syndrome?

Do I think that there are people that have legitimate imposter syndrome?

    Yes.

However, when I see people use the phrase imposter syndrome, it usually comes off to me as either a:

    ✅ license to humblebrag:

"I make over a million dollars per year through my own business, working less than 20 hours a week. I previously worked at every FAANG company. I have houses in LA, Seattle, and New York. Everybody talks about how great I am. I receive 20 job offers a day without even applying. Yet, my imposter syndrome kicks in every once in a while."

✅ way to cope regarding an actual skill deficiency

Someone thinks they are an expert at something, but they really aren't. They might not even be good at it. When they get exposed for the skill deficiency, they tell themself that it's just imposter syndrome, not an actual skill deficiency.

Suppose someone thinks they are an expert at Python, but they actually aren't even good at it. Whenever they have to do Python tasks, whether it be for school assignments, their current job, or interviews for a future job, they perform horribly. At first, they start to think that maybe they aren't good at Python (which is true). Then they just say, "oh, that's just my imposter syndrome" and continue to have a false sense of their ability.

To clarify, I am not saying that the person can't learn and get better at Python. I am also not saying that they are bad at everything. I am saying they aren't willing to accept that they are currently not good at something. Instead of recognizing that they are currently bad and taking steps to improve, they just say "imposter syndrome" and don't change.

How do you feel about imposter syndrome? Do you think the phrase is used way too much? Let me know in the comments down below!

Worthwhile things in life tend to be competitive.

Examples include admission into top universities, receiving good job offers, and becoming a professional athlete.

These things being ultra competitive does NOT mean life or "the system" is broken.

If a lot more people want these things than there are spots available, then qualified people are going to miss out.

It's unfortunate for the people that miss out, but that's just the reality.

The University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) campus can't hold all 80,000+ undergraduate applicants.

An NBA roster can't hold 100 players.

When a company has a job opening for 1 data scientist, they probably don't have the budget to hire 300.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't try to pursue these avenues though.

There is a reason why a lot of people go after these kinds of opportunities.

Furthermore, what's the solution? Should all of these things just be a pure random lottery?

How do you feel about pursuing competitive things? Do you think they are worthwhile? Let me know in the comments down below!

⚠️ There's a major party that has been completely forgotten, and thus disrespected, during this whole TikTok discussion.

📱 I'm not talking about TikTok.

🏛️ I'm not talking about the US Government either.

    ▶️ I'm talking about YouTube!

    ➡ That's right!

🫵 YouTube has always been there for YOU!

🦁 Who was it that allowed YOU to watch someone's trip at the San Diego Zoo in 2005?

    ▶️ YouTube!

🎮 Who was it that showed you step-by-step how to solve a puzzle from a video game?

    ▶️ YouTube!

💸 Who was it that provided you with ads about people making millions of dollars online doing nothing?

    ▶️ YouTube!

🫵 Well now YouTube needs you!

▶️ YouTube needs you watch YouTube Shorts!

▶️ YouTube has always been there for you.

💳 It's about time you repay the favor!

Don’t throw away a potentially great job over one thing you don’t like about the interview process.

I’ve seen people on this platform talk about how they will rescind their application or decline interviews if:

✅ they have to code during an interview ✅ have a take home assignment ✅ they have to answer technical questions during an interview ✅ the interviewer spent too much time talking

    “Interviews are a two-way street”

    Okay …

There’s no need to draw the line in the sand over such insignificant things like I listed above.

If the opportunity is worth it, then you should pursue it.

If it’s not worth it, then don’t do it.

🛑⚠️ For my current role, I had to code live in Python and SQL 🛑⚠️

It was certainly worth it for me to complete that process 😀

How do you feel having to code during an interview? How do you feel about candidates complaining about coding during interviews? If you were a hiring manager and a candidate declined to do a coding test, what would you do? Would you disqualify them? Let me know in the comments down below.
