据彭博社报道，苹果公司今年早些时候已收购 DarwinAI，进一步扩充其在 AI 领域的实力。
DarwinAI 成立于 2017 年，总部位于加拿大安大略省的 Waterloo。DarwinAI 公司的两大核心技术分别是在制造过程中检查零部件的 AI 技术，以及使用机器学习打造更小更高效的 AI 系统。
加拿大初创公司社区 Communitech 曾披露，DarwinAI 于 2020 年 12 月获得融资 600 万美元，公司成立五年得到的融资合计增至 1550 万美元。该公司同洛克希德-马丁和英特尔都有合作。
DarwinAI 被收购之后，公司官网和社交媒体账户已经下线。数十名 DarwinAI 的前员工现已加入苹果的人工智能部门。DarwinAI 的人工智能研究员 Alexander Wong 现在加入苹果 AI 部门担任董事。
苹果确认收购 DarwinAI，不过在回应媒体时又拿出了那套统一说辞：“苹果收购小型科技公司属于常规投资行为”，但没有透露收购目的或计划。
为了在人工智能市场追赶微软、Google 和其他公司，苹果正在努力为其下一代 iOS 18 和 macOS 15 操作系统打造人工智能功能。
如果苹果想与微软必应、OpenAI 的 ChatGPT 和其他生成式人工智能产品相抗衡，就必须将生成式人工智能整合到一系列产品中。苹果正在测试大型语言模型，据说 Siri、快捷方式、信息、Apple Music 等都将使用人工智能功能。
