Work is under way to reconnect the residents of a Cornish village to the internet after phone cables were severed by a hedge trimmer last month.

The phone cables in Golberdon, near Callington, were accidentally cut last month.

The damaged cable was replaced on Friday, and most people were reconnected, Openreach said.

The company said four properties were still offline and engineers had visited the site on Monday.

Openreach said it would get the customers still affected back online as quickly as possible.

'Investigate further'

Local resident Nick Easton said his internet was still cut off.

He said: "My service is still off ... apparently there was about 75 cables cut, so our service is still off.

"I phoned an Openreach engineer this morning and ... allegedly I've got an engineer coming this afternoon."

Mr Easton said he had not had any contact from BT, his broadband provider.

A spokesperson for Openreach said: "We required traffic management to make repairs safely. This was granted last Friday and the damaged cable was replaced, reconnecting most customers.

"Four properties are still offline and engineers were onsite yesterday to investigate further.

"We're keeping the customers' providers up to date and will get these customers back online as quickly as possible".
