Optimism's 4th Airdrop: $40.8M in OP Tokens for Web3 Artists

Layer 2 network Optimism has announced its fourth airdrop, giving away over 10 million OP tokens worth roughly $40.8 million to web3 artists, showing how important creativity is in the blockchain space.

According to the official statement about the project, it tries to honor and recognize artists who have been very important in shaping the Optimism Collective’s ecosystem. The claim page agrees with Optimism: “A great society needs artists.” This airdrop is a way to show respect for artists and their ability to bring art to the blockchain. Your work is very important to the Optimism Collective’s progress.”

Building NFT art on the Ethereum (ETH) mainnet or Optimism’s Superchain between Jan. 10, 2023, and Jan. 10, 2024, was required to be eligible for this big airdrop. Artists were paid based on their NFTs’ popularity, measured by the gas fees paid when the NFTs were minted or traded.

For example, creators could get 5,000 OP for making 1 ETH worth of gas on the Superchain. Each address could only get 6,000 OP. To get people to join early and keep participating, the token distribution could increase by 50% or 1.5 times for creators who meet certain bonus conditions, like making a contract early or interacting with the project a lot after launch.

The airdrop can be claimed until February 13, 2025, and 22,998 people are eager to get their hands on the generous spread. This statement comes after three airdrops, the most recent of which gave away 19.4 million OP tokens in September 2023.

Optimism has announced plans for more airdrops, and about 560 million OP tokens are still set aside for these events. As stated on social media platform X, the ongoing plan aims to improve reward systems and encourage positive contributions within the Optimism network.
