Singtel, Google to offer rich communication services to its subscribers
Singaporean telecommunications company Singtel has tapped the capabilities of tech giant Google to offer rich communication services (RCS) with rich business messaging, a move it claimed is a first in Singapore.
The operator stated Google’s RCS enables smart devices on Android to receive multimedia content and can transact and complete administrative tasks like scheduling appointments or track deliveries.
Singtel says RCS integrates into the native SMS application of Android smart devices without the need for any action by the user.
RCS services will be available within the first quarter of 2024.
Singtel vice president digitalisation, products, and partnerships Terence Lai Tuck Leong said the collaboration will support Singtel’s innovation and digital transformation in line with the expectations of their customers who are “increasingly savvy and seeking smoother, frictionless interactions with their service providers.”
Google Android and business communication product partnerships international director Jason Choy hopes that the service “will support digital transformation in various types of businesses and open new opportunities for future business innovation."
