Chess meets magic in new free-to-play Anichess in partnership with Magnus Carlsen

Animoca brands, Chess.com, and five-time world chess champion Magnus Carlsen have released the first phase of Anichess, a new web-based free-to-play chess strategy game that combines the traditional strategy of chess along with extra spell-casting capabilities, daily missions, quests, and more.

Anichess is available to play now, and allows you to sign in using your Facebook or Google account, making signup and subsequent login easy, effortless, and secure. Once in, you get introduced to the lore and its gameplay. You can review the traditional chess rules, as well as learn about the captivating story and magic spell mechanics of Anichess. These offer a range of offensive, defensive, and counter-tactics.

The game provides player vs. environment (PvE) gameplay right now, but player vs. player (PvP) combat will be released later in the first quarter of 2024.

Anichess preserves the core ethos of chess, demanding of its players the same understanding of strategic planning, probability, and psychology required in the classic game, while also introducing an innovative spell mechanism that adds an entirely new strategic layer. Players of all skill levels, including beginners, can enjoy this new evolution of chess enriched by new strategic depth, tactical magic, and expansive lore.
