@calebhailey If anyone can tell me a simple way to find these "items" I'd be thankful.

@gruber heh, I tooted too soon. I was only a few filters away from the solution, for my case anyway. My 15 items were all .thm files (thumbnail images).
Here's a Photos.app for Mac Smart Album filter that worked for me. Yours may have additional legacy image formats that you can eliminate by following this filtering pattern! Just ⌘-I (or "Get Info") on any non-"Item" images to identify their file extensions and add them to the filter.
