Question Problem Sending a Text Message

While creating my first text message, I tapped in the text using the keypad. When I was done, I looked for something to tap that would send the message but I could not find anything. While I was fiddling around looking for a "Send" icon, I received a reply. I was using RCS. What do I do to send a completed message?

Inside the pill box at the bottom(where your text message is) there should be a triangle pointing to the right. click that triangle.

I didn't notice that arrow when I was composing the message. So I tapped it and then the message appeared in a pink box above the keypad and the little arrow again is nowhere to be found.
(As a side note, I think the repeatability of a lot of things on the Pixel (and probably on the rest of the cellphones too) leaves something to be desired. Every time I to go repeat an operation, I get something slightly different on the screen .)

Furthermore, when I want to send a message I tap the Message icon. That results in a list of contacts with a "Start chat" at the bottom of the screen. I don't want to start a chat, I just want to send a message but I can't find how to do that on my phone. Can you point me in the right direction?
