Red, White & Royal Blue is a 2023 fictional adaptation of the 2019 New York Times bestseller Novel by author Casey McQuiston. This gay rom-com is new-era dreamy royal romance fiction, directed by Tony Award-winning playwright Matthew Lopez, who also co-wrote the film with Ted Malawer. The movie represents the mixture of different colors of an iconic love story, from hatred to lust and love. Plotline of Red, White & Royal Blue

The story revolves around the steamy secret romance between the first son of the United States, Alex Claremont-Diaz, and Prince Henry of England. Based on TikTok’s bestseller, this BL Novel makes butterflies hover in the reader’s tummy. The movie depicts the explosion of hidden desires between the two royalties that mark the beginning of their scandalous secret relationship. It is more like the couple channeling their hatred into hateful sex. This earns the film an R-rating. 

The story takes turns from a childhood feud to young love. Alex and Henry, two high-profile young men, are embroiled in a childhood feud that explodes into an international scandal. They threaten to wedge the relationship between the US and Britain when they get into a silly brawl at a royal event—serving the media with a juicy intake of their hateful relationship.

The incident was headlined by the media as ‘the Buttercream Summit’ the next day. Later requiring them to accept responsibility for the harm done by staging a truce in the eyes of the public. Nonetheless, the scenario sparks the most unexpectedly beautiful romance between the two.

Zakhar Perez as Marco

The cast includes Zakhar Perez, famous for his role as Marco in the Netflix Original Series The Kissing Booth, who plays Alex Claremont-Diaz, the 21-year-old son of the United States’ first woman President, Ellen Claremont, played by Uma Thurman, and Senator Oscar Diaz, played by Clifton Collin Jr.

Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Henry

And Nicholas Galitzine, who plays Prince Henry, is familiar with the royal prince act from his previous film opposite Camila Cabello, Cinderella. People can also identify him for his role as Luke in Purple Hearts opposite Sofia Carson. Prince Henry is quiet and reclusive by nature and mainly interacts with people in his immediate circle, such as his sister Princess Bea (Ellie Bamber) and best buddy Perky Okonjo (Malcolm Atobrah).  

Zahra Bankston as Billie

Another prominent character in the film is Zahra Bankston, famous for her role as Billie in the Netflix original Series Sex/Life, played by Sarah Shahi, the deputy chief of staff. The supporting cast includes Rachel Hilson, Malcolm Atobrah, Akshaye Khanna, Stephen Fry, Ellie Bamber, Thomas Flynn, Sharon D. Clarke, Aneesh Sheth, and Juan Castano.

Red, White & Royal Blue Release Date

Red, White & Royal Blue movie’s official release date as well as the movie’s poster were made available via Prime Video on April 26, 2023. The poster showed two royals presenting the respectful flags of the nations they represent while seated on a leather couch with their legs linked. Red, White & Royal Blue will officially release on August 11, 2023, this Friday on Amazon Prime and will be available to Prime subscribers. The movie won’t be released in theaters though it premiered at the BFI IMAX in London on July 22, 2023.
