FTC getting ready to hit Amazon with anti-trust lawsuit: report Featured

The US Federal Trade Commission is gearing up to hit Amazon with an anti-trust lawsuit, accusing the company of favouring companies who use its logistics services and not helping those who don't.
The news agency Bloomberg reported that the FTC intended, in the weeks ahead, to "file a far-reaching anti-trust suit focused on Amazon's core online marketplace, according to documents reviewed by Bloomberg and three people familiar with the case."
Earlier this month, the FTC said it would take action against Amazon for enrolling consumers into its Prime program without consent and making it difficult for them to leave.
At the time, the FTC charged the company, whose owner Jeff Bezos is once again the world's richest man, with using "manipulative, coercive or deceptive user-interface designs known as 'dark patterns' to trick consumers into enrolling in automatically-renewing Prime subscriptions".
The Bloomberg report said: "FTC investigators and Khan's office have been honing the complaint for several months... and finalising key details such as where to file suit."
If the agency were to file the action in a federal court, it "would avoid drawn-out litigation on whether Khan has a conflict of interest, but could make the case harder to win," the report said.
