I would suggest you to take a look at eSIM option instead. Easier to acquire and better solution for short travelling.

You purchased a U and not a U1. It more than likely locked to the first SIM you put in the device. Go to Settings and search for Network Unlock. All US carriers have requirements that must be met before a device is eligible to be SIM unlocked.
