I thought my studio display was bricked updating to the beta version of it, because that was basically what was telling me, until I found out you have to remove peripherals out when updating (which fixed it for me).
For a sec I thought I had to undo all the cable management and tear apart my computer compartment box just to untether my display so that I can take it to the Apple Store, since Apple designed this display that isn't user-detachable?
I have to reboot my Mac twice and wait twice to update my devices
Such an inconvenient nice display 🙄

Now time to update the other one.

havent played with studio display but this is more like a panel failing flicker or a connect/disconnect the cable flicker?Wonder if this fixes my flickering display issue. Talked with Apple Support and they said to take it in to a store. Since it is so random and intermittent (maybe once a week) told me to take a video of the failure to show the geniuses.
usbc ports in macbook wear over time and they sometimes disconnect the device when they are worn out
panel display flicker. The display never actually goes off as one would expect with a cable disconnect. It just flickers. Changing to a different resolution and then back to the original one immediately fixes it. With time it stops being constant to every few minutes or so and then goes away.but this is more like a panel failing flicker
You’ve spent too much money on a display that does that kind of stuff, return the thing!panel display flicker. The display never actually goes off as one would expect with a cable disconnect. I don’t have one, but if I did, these iOS numbered updates for a display would drive me nuts. If it was a couple of possible firmware updates here and there, like normal monitors, it wouldn’t be so odd.
Edit: Or, enable it as an Apple TV running tvOS.

It is essentially a computer already so you might as well enjoy all the benefits.

It doesn’t have a network connection…I do wish they would enable Apple TV like experience for the Studio Display and enable pairing with an Apple Remote, it would just be a nice little Netflix/Streaming device without having to turn on a computer. Or even a dedicated Zoom/Facetime device.

Yeah, I had an issue until I exited clamshell mode on my 14" MBP.If you are having problems with installing the firmware, make sure that all devices are unplugged from all the thunderbolt ports on the Studio Display. Then shut down your computer and reinstall the firmware update. It would not install for me until I did this. The latest Build # is 21A5268h
Not an option since started after owning for about a year. But do have AppleCare ....return the thing!

Damn...to do all of this just for a monitor update..It's actually sad.If you are having problems with installing the firmware, make sure that all devices are unplugged from all the thunderbolt ports on the Studio Display. Monitors in the past had these too, it's nothing unique to this monitor.

People just like to complain about any inconvenience. I’ve had a Studio Display for 2 weeks now and love it. Today I was notified about the 16.4 firmware update. Push a button, restart, wait a little, done. Oh the horror. Not sure why people are mad about monitor updates, they're vastly more complicated these days, it takes a lot of work to drive displays with as many pixels as these have and I'd rather get updates that fix bugs.

I just got mine about a week ago and am smitten! It was a chunk of change (I got the height adjustable one) but wow what a difference from my 2010 Cinema Displays!People just like to complain about any inconvenience. Oh, they have every right to be mad. This is Apple riding the horrible trend of ship it first, fix it later which also affected the Studio Display models when they launched and persisted for quite a long while. Yes, many new monitors are complex these days but I fail to see how the Studio Display is even comparable to many of the expensive gaming/premium monitors with vastly more ports/features given I can't even use it well with Windows or Linux. Regardless, even with all these updates, there are still weird hiccups I encounter at times which I was hoping to never see with an "Apple monitor".Not sure why people are mad about monitor updates, they're vastly more complicated these days, it takes a lot of work to drive displays with as many pixels as these have and I'd rather get updates that fix bugs.
