Hey Product Hunt 👋!

I'm Aliza and I'm the Founder & CEO of Rex.

I started Rex because I was frustrated by how much work it was to discover great places.

Between reading ratings and reviews from strangers whose taste we don't know, to exchanging recommendations with friends over text, email, DM, spreadsheets, and docs, the way we discover and share great places to go is broken.

Rex is a new app that helps you discover, keep track of, and share recommendations of places you love with friends.

On Rex you can:

1. Organize all of your recommendations in one place: Rex uses computer vision and ML to scan your camera roll and makes it super easy to turn photos you've taken from past meals, trips, and experiences into recommendations ("rex"). And if you want to recommend a place you don't have a photo of, no problem, you can add any place in the world to Rex!

2. Curate recommendation playlists: you can organize your rex into playlists of your favorite restaurants, coffee shops, burgers, hotels, hikes, things to do, and share your playlists with friends.

3. Track all of your favorite places you've been on a map.

4. Follow friends and get recommendations from people you trust. Filter our interactive map to see rex from friends in specific areas, and see great places as your friends discover them in the feed.

5. Save places you discover from others and create lists of places you want to go in the future.

We're just getting started and would love to hear any feedback you have! Happy rexing!

Great work here! Rex looks like it could be a hit in the travel software space. You say that Rex scans your camera roll when adding places to stay. What measures do you have in place for privacy with this part of the app?
@evanwherchek we don't actually store your photos on our servers when you grant access to your camera roll, we only store them if and when you decide to rex a place and opt-in to include photos in your rex.
Rex is such a natural extension of the way I already live and share places I love. What’s always been a messy process (texting random lists from Notes app, forwarding email threads, etc) now feels easy, clean, and organized. Plus it’s fun (photos!), social, and inspiring (especially for travel planning/day dreaming). I like knowing that the Rex I save come from people I trust with similar taste.
I am currently Interning abroad in London and have found REX really helpful to share recommendations with my friends! So many cool places I was able to visit because of the rex I have received as well!
