Samsung announced that it's readying an irregular heart rate tracking feature that will debut with the upcoming Galaxy Watch6 series and will later reach older models too. It's going to be introduced via Samsung's Health Monitor app, which is also used for ECG measurements.

And although unconfirmed, it seems that only Samsung smartphone owners will get notifications for irregular heart rate since the app is available only to Samsung devices. It also sounds like the irregular heart rate tracking will require continuous heart rate tracking to be enabled, which sounds reasonable enough.

The feature itself aims at identifying atrial fibrillation (AFib), although it's not meant to diagnose the condition. Samsung stresses the fact that it doesn't replace a real-life physician and it only aims at shedding light on the problem and encouraging the user to visit a medical professional for further assessments. The feature will also help you keep an eye on heart health between doctor visits.

More than 70 countries have approved Samsung's Health Monitor app and its ECG capabilities, but irregular heart rate monitoring will require additional regional approval. For now, only South Korea, the USA, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Georgia, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Panama and the UAE have approved the new feature.
