Global audio brand Tranya has released its first sports earbuds, which hook over the ears, instead of purely resting within them.

While packing a new form factor, the Tranya x5 makes sense for Tranya, with the brand having long devoted itself to providing affordable and quality audio products that meet its users where they are.

It's been a weirdly hot year so far here in Australia, so this iTWire writer has not felt like pounding the pavement but has been using the Tranya x5 for walking as well as riding hard on the NordicTrack S22i studio bike, ensuring I worked up a sweat.

The Tranya x5 earbuds fitted snugly, and at no time did I feel any concern they would fall out. I like the over-the-ear hook and have always found this a comfortable way of wearing earbuds, especially when on the go. I’ve previously called this style the form factor for people who have things to do. That’s still the case, and you can ride or walk, sit or run, backflip or swim, with confidence your Tranya x5 earbuds will stay put.

Of course, that’s only one part of the equation. You don’t simply want earbuds that fit; you want them to sound great also. Tranya doesn’t disappoint; in fact, these earbuds build on Tranya’s substantial audio engineering expertise to provide incredibly clear sound that’s powered by Bluetooth 5.3 for ultra-stability and a 14.2mm graphene driver for truly great sound.

Now, this is one of those terms thrown around in headset and earbud comparisons that are not really self-explaining. A driver comes down to the physics of sound and is named such because it literally drives the air. The driver creates pressure waves, converting electrical energy into acoustic energy, resulting in ear canal sound. So that’s a driver. The size (14.2mm) and material (graphene) also matter because the larger the size, the stronger the sound - but at a price; the heavier a speaker’s cone the harder it is to drive. In comes graphene - this material is around 200 times stronger than high-carbon steel and is an excellent conductor of heat and electricity, so much so that graphene drivers can massively cut down on the amount of power required to move a speaker coil back and forth. That's a lot of words, but it’s important to understand because this is literally telling you the strength of the earbud and provides a basis for comparing earbuds.

And sure enough, iTWire found the Tranya x5 performed admirably. We enjoyed premium sound quality from our music and podcasts even while spinning away on the bike and with other noises around us.
